Imo "social" and "economic" views should be looked at separately.
Currently, there are a lot of voters who think getting f'ed economically is an inevitability regardless of who's in charge, so they vote their religion. Anarchocronycapitalism and extreme SJWism have moved the "Overton window" (and by extension the "center") far right on economics and far left on social issues. Debt fear mongering pushes the economic discussion further right. This gives the Republicans an advantage because it's easy for socially conservative and libertarian people to conflate that belief with shitty economic policy that rigs the game against them. They think that's "freedom."
